Carnegie Smyth
Chief Executive Officer

Carnegie was appointed Chief Executive Officer to lead Signia’s Management Team at the beginning of 2015. His focus is on driving the strategy of the business and day to day management. Carnegie originally joined Signia in 2011 and worked as part of the wealth management team before leaving to set up Squared Investments, an investment management company advising entrepreneurs and their families.

Having rejoined the firm in 2015, he draws on a wealth of experience and knowledge providing him with a deep insight into the needs of clients. His areas of experience range from investment management, to hedge funds as well as opportunistic investments in private equity.

Prior to 2011, Carnegie worked at Deloitte LLP in the Entrepreneurial Business and Private Client team where he advised UHNW individuals, entrepreneurs and high profile sports and media clients on multi-jurisdictional tax and corporate advisory issues. In addition, Carnegie is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, a member of CISI, an Ambassador with the British Olympic Association and Trustee of Sported. Carnegie holds a BA (Hons) in Management Finance from The University of Nottingham and is a member of the Executive committee.


Derek Zissman
Non-Executive Director

Derek Zissman was a former partner in KPMG for over 30 years and vice chairman of the UK firm.  During his time at KPMG he was a founding partner of UK’s corporate finance group and private equity groups in the UK and USA.  Following his retirement from the firm in 2008, he has held directorships on boards and advisory boards including Alchemy Partners, Barclays Wealth & Investment Management and Seymour Pierce.  He currently holds a number of board positions and chairs the audit committees of companies operating in the IT solutions, leisure, water solutions and engineering sectors.


Etienne de Merlis

Etienne was brought in at the start of 2015 as a part of the firm’s new management team.  He has over 23 years financial markets and investment experience, having spent 8 years as a derivatives structurer in Paris and London and 14 years managing multi asset portfolios for ultra-high net worth clients at JPMorgan where he oversaw a team of 12 people managing over USD 20 billion.

Etienne originally joined Signia in 2011 as part of the Investment Team before leaving to set up Squared Investments, an investment management company advising entrepreneurs and their families.  Having re-joined Signia in 2015, Etienne drives the formulation and development of Signia’s investment policy.

Etienne has a BA from Paris Dauphine University, is multi-lingual and was named one of the top 100 wealth managers in the UK by City Wire in 2013.  Etienne is a member of Signia’s Executive Committee and Asset Allocation Committee.


Greg Malone
Head of Wealth Management

Greg is the Head of Wealth Management at Signia and was brought in at the start of 2015 as part of the firm’s new management team. Greg leads the wealth management business and is responsible for maintaining and developing the firm’s key client relationships.

Greg originally joined Signia in 2010 and worked as part of the wealth management team before leaving to set up Squared Investments, an investment management company advising entrepreneurs and their families. Having re-joined Signia in 2015, Greg has in-depth experience and expertise of advising across global-multi asset portfolios, including hedge funds and opportunistic investments in private equity.

Prior to 2010, Greg worked at Arbuthnot Latham as a private banker where he advised clients across their investments as well as sourcing credit.  He is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics and Econometrics from The University of Nottingham. Greg is a member of Signia’s Executive Committee and Product Approval Committee.


Michael Rosenthal
Chief Investment Officer, Head of Hedge Fund Investment

Michael has twenty years of investment management experience and has managed assets across US, Europe, Japan and Asia Pacific. Michael joined Signia in 2013 from Amundi Alternative Asset Management, the hedge fund subsidiary of SocGen/Credit Agricole, where he was Global Co-Head of Investment and Head of the firm’s London office.

During Michael’s eleven year tenure at Amundi, hedge fund assets under management grew from $1.2 billion to $28 billion, with the business becoming one of the top five European hedge fund investors. Prior to Amundi, Michael spent five years at JPMorgan Investment Management where he was a Portfolio Manager managing Asian Equity portfolios and a Japan Long Short Equity Hedge Fund. Michael is a member of the Executive committee.


Paul Lester
Chairman

Paul Lester CBE became Chairman of Signia in January 2014 and has been instrumental in the restructuring of the firm’s strategy.  He is a leading industrialist and an experienced Chairman. Current chairs include organisations: John Laing Infrastructure Fund (FTSE 250), Essentra (FTSE 250), Forterra (FTSE 250) and Knight Square.

From 2002 to 2010 Paul was Chief Executive Officer of VT Group plc, the support services company. Paul also held the position of Group Managing Director of Balfour Beatty, Chief Executive of Graseby plc, and senior management positions at Schlumberger and the Dowty Group plc. Paul has also previously served as a Non-Executive Director of Invensys (FTSE 100) and President of the Society of Maritime Industries, the BSA and the EEF. He is a Chartered Engineer and a FIMechE and Honorary Doctor of Law.

He is a lifetime West Bromwich Albion Supporter.


R. Todd Ruppert
Senior Advisor

R. Todd Ruppert is the Founder and CEO of RUPPERT International, Inc. a firm with diversified interests globally in various fields.

In 2012, after a 27 year career, he retired from T. Rowe Price, a global investment management firm with over $750 billion under management. He was Board Member, CEO and President of T. Rowe Price Global Investment Services, Board Member and President, Investment Services, of T. Rowe Price International, and a member of the Operating Steering Committee of the T. Rowe Price group.

Todd is a venture partner with Greenspring Associates, a US based venture capital firm with $4 billion under management. He is a Board Member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and President of the Board of London’s Royal Parks Foundation (USA). He is also a founding Board Member of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the US and a Global Ambassador of the International Award.  Todd also holds a number of non-exec company positions across a range of industries located in various different countries and he is a board member of the INSEAD Business School.
